The Grape Varieties and the Vineyards

The 122 hectares of vineyards were planted, under the integrated production system, on the typical undulating landscape that surrounds the entire property. Due to its geographic location, wine production at these vineyards is influenced by the mild climate that characterises the Northeast Alentejo, which gives the wine of Vale Barqueiros unique and prominent characteristics.

There is a clear dominance of Portuguese wine grape varieties in our lands, which impart a strong regional character to the wine. In addition, these varieties are perfectly suited for Alentejo’s climate and landscape features.

Regarding the typical Portuguese grape varieties, Aragonês, Trincadeira and Touriga Nacional stand out among the red wine grape varieties, while Arinto, Fernão Pires and Antão Vaz do so among the white wine grape varieties. More recently, we have invested in well-known international varieties that allow for greater complexity, such as: Alicante Bouschet, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

All our vines are trained according to the Double Guyot system.
