The Sociedade Agrícola Herdade de Vale Barqueiros S.A., formed in 1985, holds the farm called Herdade Vale Barqueiros. Characterized as a fully family oriented company, the property consists of 122ha of vineyards, 330ha of olive groves, a forest area consisting of cork oaks and pines and several dams to meet the irrigation needs.
In the social aspect, the company is the largest employer in the municipality of Alter do Chão, thus contributing to the economic and social development of the region. Betting from the beginning in the implementation of cutting-edge technologies in the field of viticulture and exploitation of the olive grove, pioneered the installation of a drip irrigation system adapted to these crops. Partnerships were established with international technicians who contributed to the development of the “know-how” of the estate becoming today a reference in technological terms.
